Library reaches out ‘Million Dollar Arm’

The free movie of the week at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library is Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm” (PG), starring Jon Hamm.

Show times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments will be served.

Poetry deadline

Sunday is the deadline for poets to submit their original works for Jones Creek Regional Branch Library’s poetry contest.

Poems must be typed and at least 20 lines long. Each person may submit one entry.

Winners will be announced at the Heartune Creations Poetry Workshop on July 17.

Silver Spokes

BREC’s Silver Spokes, a free senior biking program, rides from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Community Park.

Seniors have the choice of special designed cruisers or three-wheeled adult tricycles, or can bring their own.

Teen Movie Day

“The 5th Wave” (PG-13), starring Chloë Grace Moretz, will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Refreshments will be served.

Make-and-take craft

A children’s make-and-take craft time at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday is shaping up to be lots of fun.

Children ages 6 and older will explore the library’s shaped books and discuss subjects for each child’s own book to be created from a choice of patterns.

Scrabble time

Another evening of Scrabble for adults gets started at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Prizes will be awarded.

Art with Antoinette

Two sessions with Baton Rouge artist Antoinette Johnson are planned Wednesday at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. Johnson will help children create their own dot art painting on canvas to take home.

AGES 5 TO 7: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; limited to 10 children.

AGES 8 TO 11: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; limited to 20 children.

Laugh it up

Adults in need of a laugh should stop by Jones Creek Regional Branch Library at 6:30 p.m. July 14 to hear standup comedian and golf pro Jimmy Neese perform.
