Fathers and their children will take over BREC’s Perkins Road Community Park on Saturday for the second annual Daddy, Daughter and Son 1-mile relay.

The event is a fundraiser for the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation. It starts and ends at Olympia Stadium.

Free exercise classes for cancer patients

Cancer patients are invited to take part in Baton Rouge General Hospital Bluebonnet campus’ Healthy Steps Lebed exercise program at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

Healing through dance and movement is the premise of the free classes.

Playhouse benefit aids kids’ advocates

Capital Area CASA Association’s 20th annual Casas for CASA playhouse fundraiser kicks off in July.

The event is designed to generate public awareness, funding and community support for the Court Appointed Special Advocates program’s efforts on behalf of abused and neglected children.

For three weeks, from July 26 to Aug. 17, $5 raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win a children’s playhouse valued at nearly $17,000. The playhouse will be on display at the Mall of Louisiana.

The event officially kicks off from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 27 at the Mall of Louisiana with the CASA Fiesta, featuring Mexican cuisine donated by Caliente Mexican Craving and other local restaurants, margaritas, an auction and live music by the Better Than Nobody Band.
