Third-grade students at St. Jude Catholic School donned cowboy hats, raccoon-skin caps and bonnets Friday while they made necessities such as soap and quilts.

The students celebrated Pioneer Day and set up stations in the school’s activity center to demonstrate what life was like for Americans who traveled west to settle territory. They also had an opportunity to play the same games as children who lived in the 1800s, and prepare and sample popular foods from this time period.
