The Stumberg Lane extension project, which will connect Pecue Lane to Airline Highway to Jefferson Highway, should be finished by the end of October.

The road improvements are part of the city-parish Green Light Plan, for which voters approved a half-cent sales tax in 2005.

Green Light Plan Program Manager Jonathan Charbonnet said the roads are in, and the main work left to finish is striping the streets and pouring concrete along Jefferson Highway.

The first phase of the project, which has been complete since 2012, focused on Pecue Lane to Airline Highway. The second phase has targeted the Stumberg Lane and Jefferson Highway intersection.

Recent construction included minor widening of Jefferson Highway and adding a bridge over Claycut Bayou.

The final product should be a better north/south connection from Perkins Road to Coursey Boulevard.

“All the major work has been done,” Charbonnet said.

He added that construction could finish a week early if the weather cooperates.
