It’s football season in Louisiana, and that means tailgating. Whether at a stadium or in back yard, fans gather to celebrate and cheer for their favorite team.

Kids’ Night Out

Children are invited to take part in Kids’ Night Out at the Swamp.

BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is hosting hikes games, crafts and animal encounters during these nighttime programs set for Sept. 12, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.

Children ages 7 to 12 pay $20 if residents of East Baton Rouge Parish and $24 for out-of-parish residents.

Dog Days program

The Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center drops its no pets policy Sept. 20 and Dec. 20 for its Dog Days program.

All pets are welcome, but must be on a leash and have current vaccinations.

General admission fees apply.

Checkmates

IBM in partnership with The Foundation for East Baton Rouge Parish School System will host the Back-to-School Chessmates Classic starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Northeast High School.

The tournament is open to all public, parochial, private and home-school students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Registration discounts are offered to individual students and school teams preregistering for the tournament at www.foundationebr.org/chess.
