St. Michael the Archangel High School held its annual Warrior Awards Dinner on May 19 at White Oak Plantation.
Lacey Sanchez, a 2008 graduate and current Miss Louisiana, received the 2015 Alumni of the Year Award. Sanchez continues to be active with St. Michael, welcoming prospective families at open house, serving as a guest speaker at student assemblies and participating in the school’s marketing campaign, a news release said.
As a St. Michael student, Sanchez was involved in Student Council, Ambassadors, National Honor Society, Peer Ministry, Junior Classical League, Beta Club, Science Club, track and field, cheerleading, softball and gymnastics.
Josh Goodson was honored as a 2015 Wall of Honor Athlete, receiving his award from his former wrestling student, 2010 alumnus Ben Willford.
Goodson graduated from Bishop Sullivan High School (now St. Michael) in 1998. He was a member of the second-place state wrestling championship team in 1997, a three-time state wrestling champion, two-time city champion, City Outstanding Wrestler in 1998 and All-Metro first team member in 1997. Goodson was recognized by “Elite High School Wrestlers of America” in 1997 and “Who’s Who in High School Sports” in 1998.
Whitney Dunlap, also named a 2015 Wall of Honor Athlete, was presented the award by head basketball coach Tami McClure.
Dunlap, a 2005 graduate of Bishop Sullivan High School, was a softball and basketball player for the Lady Warriors, earning multiple All-Metro, All-District and All-State honors. She is the current all-time leading scorer in girls basketball at St. Michael and holds a number of other basketball records.
Longtime volunteer Dionne Harter received the Warrior Sword Award. She has been a member of the Warrior Club, a support organization at St. Michael, since 2010 and has served as treasurer for the past three years. As treasurer, she has helped with planning the Adult Back-to-School Dance, overseeing the promotional sales, and organizing ads, ad sales and photographs for the football program.
Harter has volunteered for volleyball team events, served on the Tennis Fundraiser Committee and served as the “Wrestling Mom” for the past two years. She also volunteers at many school-related events and activities, including the annual “Moonlight and Jazz” band fundraiser and the St. Michael Gala and Auction.
