After listening to a selection of Thanksgiving poems and the book “I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie” by Alison Jacksons, children will weave a Thanksgiving placemat at a 10:30 a.m. program Saturday at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Bluebonnet Regional Branch.

Book club meeting

The next Bluebonnet Library Book Club meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Bluebonnet Regional Branch.

The book club meets the third Wednesday of every month. New members are welcome. The November book is “The Cutting Season” by Attica Locke. The group gathers in meeting room 2.

Santa Fun Run

Hundreds of Santas will run the streets of downtown Baton Rouge at the third annual Oaks Kiwanis Club 1.25 Mile Santa Fun Run on Dec. 13. The fun run will precede the 64th annual Cortana Kiwanis Christmas Parade.

All registered participants will receive Santa suits to wear during the fun run. The suits include a red jacket, black belt, red pants and Santa hat. Adult sizes also include a beard.

Santa runners are being asked to donate toys and books to St. Vincent de Paul in the spirit of Christmas. After the fun run, participants will be able to enjoy the parade from a VIP runners viewing section or are welcome to stay at the finish line to hear a DJ spin Christmas tunes.

The fun run starts at River Road and Government Street. Streets will close at 2:30 p.m. and Santas will line up for the run at 4:45 p.m. The race begins at 5 p.m. with the parade following at 5:30 p.m.

Those interested in participating can register for $25 at or onsite the day of the run.
