The Parkview Baptist Marching Band received superior ratings at the Southwest Classic Marching Festival on Nov. 1 at McNeese University Stadium.

The Parkview Baptist High School Band, Blue Extreme and Silver Steppers performed at the festival, a news release from the school said.

The band received superior ratings in music, auxiliary, percussion, drum major, general effect and overall band for their show performance of “It Don’t Mean a Thing, if it Ain’t Got that Swing.” Superior ratings are the highest ratings achieved at festival, the release said.

The band also received best in classification awards in each of the categories awarded, including music, auxiliary, percussion, drum major, general effect and visuals.

Parkview’s band brought home 12 trophies.

The band began practicing in mid-July at band camp, where students practiced for 13 hours a day, for two weeks. Since then, they spent countless hours memorizing music, practicing marching, and learning choreography during class and at after-school practices, the release said.
