Louisiana first lady Supriya Jindal hosted a care package packing event at the Governor’s Mansion on June 10.

The packages, assembled for Louisiana National Guard soldiers who are deployed overseas, will go to members of the 1023rd Vertical Engineer Company. Guard spouses, members of the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate, governor’s cabinet members and governor’s staff helped assemble the care packages.

The unit, based in Oak Grove, will receive the care packages after being deployed overseas for the last three months; some soldiers are on their fourth deployment.

Items for the care packages were donated by Wal-Mart, AT&T, New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, Community Coffee Company, Tony Chachere’s, Point Coupee Pecan and Aunt Sally’s Pralines.
