3 students win top prizes in DAR stamp design contest _lowres

Three students from the Helping Youth Prepare for Excellence Program at First United Methodist Church were recognized March 16 for their accomplishments in the Junior American Citizen competitions sponsored by John James Audubon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Stamp design participants Alexandra Boyd won first place in the state and national competitions, Madison Sloan won first place state and national; and Roland Etienne won first place state and third place national in their age categories.

The students were presented certificates, medals, cash awards, Junior American Citizen pins and American flags. The Director of the HYPE program, Cindy Downs, accepted on behalf of the program a certificate and cash award. All three students attend Bernard Terrace Elementary.
