Louisiana first lady Supriya Jindal recently announced the artwork selected for display in the Louisiana’s Governor’s Mansion for September.
Local students whose works were chosen are Scotlandville Middle Magnet eighth-graders Malik Northern and Jerbria Pearson.
Every month, a new group of art is displayed to pay tribute to Louisiana’s young artists.
Hip-hop dance classes
The Paula G. Manship YMCA is offering adult hip-hop dance classes incorporating current moves while working on core and arm strength. Participants will learn basic hip-hop technique and how to incorporate dance technique into hip-hop routines.
Classes are 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 24 through Nov. 12 and are for adults ages 18 and older. Cost is $50 for members and $90 for other participants. Registration deadline is Sept. 20.

Dog Days at the swamp
Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center’s Dog Days return from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19.
All pets are welcome but must be on a leash and have current vaccinations. All ages are welcome.

Filing for Social Security
George Thompson, a certified financial planner with Waddell and Reed, will give hourlong presentations on filing for Social Security at 10 a.m. Saturday and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bluebonnet Regional Library. Handouts will be provided and there will be ample time for questions.
DIY sleep masks
Teens interested in making their own sleep masks can come to the Bluebonnet library from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday. All materials will be provided.
The Bluebonnet library is offering another CPR/AED class from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
The class will be taught by an American Red Cross instructor. Certification is optional and available for a fee. Class instruction time will vary according to the number of participants.

Bingo is back
Adults can play a few rounds of bingo and enjoy snacks at the Bluebonnet library from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Winners will receive prizes.
