St. Joseph’s Academy students, faculty and staff chose senior Tiffany Byrd on April 30 to lead the school’s traditional May Crowning Ceremony.

Seniors Elizabeth Foshee, Kendall Gaudin, Mallory Gill, Courtney King, Nicole Kotval, Hope Mayer, Brooke Ragusa, Celine Richard and Peyton Thompson assisted Byrd.

Seniors participating in the ceremony were chosen because they demonstrate honesty, integrity, a strong moral character, a genuine responsiveness to the needs of their neighbors and a strong commitment to their faith, Principal Linda Fryoux Harvison said.

Students enjoyed a picnic lunch in the orchard following the ceremony.

May is the month traditionally devoted to the Virgin Mary, said Communications Director Mindy Brodhead Averitt, but the ceremony was held April 30 this year because May 1 was the last school day for seniors.
