Big Pigs for education

Baton Rouge Community College’s Business Department is the beneficiary of a March Madness fundraiser at City Pork.

For every Big Pig sandwich sold on Thursdays in March, $2 will be donated to the college’s Business Department. The fundraiser is available for lunch and dinner at City Pork Brasserie & Bar, 7327 Jefferson Highway, and City Pork Deli & Charcuterie, 2363 Hollydale Ave.

Rockin’ at the Swamp

Get hands-on experience with the world of rocks, minerals, gemstones and fossils at Rockin’ in the Swamp. It’s from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.

Activities include a Rockhound Market, rock-climbing wall, Treasure Trail, hunting for iron pyrite in the gold mine, crafts, a fossil quarry and more.

Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for pass members, $4 for children ages 2 to 17 and free children under age 2.

Egg hunt

Family fun for all ages is available at BREC’s Community Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Forest Community Park. There will be themed recreational games, arts and crafts, a visit from the Easter bunny and candy.

Read Across America

Jones Creek Regional Branch Library is participating in Read Across America at 11 a.m. Saturday. Children ages 5 to 8 will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with stories, a match-the-sock-from-the-dryer game and a fox-in-socks paper bag puppet.

CD mandala art

A craft session for teens at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday includes the use of old CDs as the base material for unique mandalas. Materials and refreshments will be provided.

Discovery Dome

The Discovery Dome presents “Magic Tree House: Space Mission” at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library on Monday at 5:15 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show is intended for ages 5 to 10.

'Hidden Figures'

A book discussion for adults at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fairwood Branch Library features this year’s One Book One Community selection, “Hidden Figures.”

The book also inspires an evening of Jeopardy at Jones Creek Regional Branch Library at 7 p.m. March 15. Participants will play in teams for a chance to win prizes.

Civil service jobs

Learn about civil service jobs with the state or city-parish government during a free informational seminar at the Main Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

A panel including representatives from the Louisiana State Department of Civil Service and City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge Recruitment Division will discuss available career paths, available openings and how to apply.

Spring Green

Baton Rouge Zoo is hosting Spring Green from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 17, with zoo grounds closing at 5 p.m. The event includes education on how to help wild animals and wild places  through special amphitheater programs, games and prizes for children and a “find the green” scavenger hunt.
