BREC goes outdoors

BREC has joined a national effort to challenge residents to get out and visit parks and recreation facilities throughout July in celebration of National Park and Recreation Month, which is celebrated in July.

This year’s theme, “OUT is IN” encourages individuals, families, friends and co-workers to do something outside every day that they would normally do inside. From moving family dinner from the kitchen to a picnic in the park to sending an email or even holding a meeting outside, there are many small ways residents can make going outdoors part of their daily routine.

“We take seriously our mission to encourage all residents to get outside and get moving in order to create a healthier community with a better quality of life,” said BREC Superintedent Carolyn McKnight.

“Movie at the Lagoon” will be held July 19 at Liberty Lagoon Water Park. Admission is $5 per person and BREC will show “Despicable Me 2” on the grassy island area of the water park, offer activities for prizes and sell limited concessions.

The BREC Outdoor Adventure Department will offer the following programs during July:

  • Rock Climbing Trip at Chattanooga, Tennessee: July 3-6
  • Sunset Paddle at Wampold Park: July 11
  • Paddle Up Three at Tickfaw State Park: July 12
  • Paddle Up One at Liberty Lagoon: July 12, 19, 26

  • Paddle Up Four at Bogue Chitto State Park: July 26
