The Baton Rouge Area Chamber announced award recipients honored at its annual shareholders’ meeting on March 24 at L’Auberge Casino Hotel.

“We believe it’s important to recognize individuals and companies who display exemplary leadership through service to the region’s business community,” said Erin Monroe Wesley, executive vice president and chief operating officer of BRAC.

Award recipients include:

Pamela Bounds, Berente Companies, Volunteer of the Year Award.

Patricia “Patty” McMurray, Adams and Reese LLP and 2014 chairwoman of BRAC’s Education Issue Council and BRAC board’s general counsel, D. Jensen Holliday Award. The award is presented to a member of the BRAC board of directors for “extraordinary leadership and exemplary service to BRAC,” a news release said.

Ben Miller Jr., co-founder of Kean Miller LLP, Community Champion Award. The award was conferred posthumously to Miller. BRAC presents a Community Champion Award annually to a person for outstanding contributions to his or her company and above and beyond leadership in the community, the release said. Recipients also demonstrate leadership, visionary thinking and extraordinary volunteerism. Miller’s widow, Bettsie Miller, accepted the award in his honor.

Pod Pack International, Project of the Year Award. The award is presented to an economic development project that positions the Capital Region at the next level through job creation, capital expenditures, expansion of an industry sector, and long-term impact on the regional economy and brand, the release said. Pod Pack was recognized for its 2014 announcement of a $10.1 million expansion of its manufacturing facility, nearly doubling its staff and generating $600,000 in new payroll. Pod Pack is a co-packer of coffee and tea products, packaging products in individual pods.
