TJ Ribs on Acadian Thruway is celebrating the contributions of teachers by giving away $1,000 this month to a teacher in the community.
The public is invited to nominate teachers on the restaurant’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/TJRibs, through Feb. 15. The teacher receiving the most votes will be awarded $1,000 to help them nurture their students.
Make it a Movie Night
Celebrate true love with Westley and Buttercup during BREC’s Make it a Movie Night featured film, “The Princess Bride” (PG), at 7 p.m. Friday at Independence Park Theatre.
Concessions are available for purchase at this free, family-friendly indoor film series.
Another session of LED greeting card crafting for teens gets underway at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library. All materials will be provided.
Saturday is the registration deadline for BREC’s Mardi Gras Junior Tennis Camp for ages 4 to 16. The camp is slated for Monday to Feb. 16 at Highland Road Community Park Tennis Center.
Full-day camp is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $35 per day or $165 for the entire week. Half-day camp is 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and costs $25 per day or $115 for the entire week. Full-day campers must bring their own lunch. A $10 late fee applies for those who register after the deadline.

Mardi Gras masks
Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library invites children ages 5 to 11 to make one-of-a-kind masks for their Mardi Gras celebrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
All East Baton Rouge Parish Library locations will be closed Tuesday in observance of Mardi Gras. Regular hours resume Wednesday.
Take a break from Mardi Gras festivities on Tuesday with the Geaux Fish Catfish Rodeo at North Sherwood Community Park from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The park’s new pond will be stocked with adult channel catfish. The event also includes prizes, children’s activities and a Mardi Gras toss.

Explore Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center during Flashlight Night at the Swamp from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 16.
The evening includes live animal encounters, special nature films and nighttime hikes with family and friends — just remember to bring a flashlight. Closed-toe shoes and insect repellant are recommended for hikers.
