Jazz vibraphonist and percussionist Charles Brooks is the featured artist at the Bee Nice Music Summer Concert Series on Friday at Bee Nice Music, 4205 Capitol Heights Ave.
Brooks will get the show started at 7 p.m. with the vibraphone and the new gdrum, a steel-shelled, electro-acoustic hand drum that can connect with loopers and FX pedals.
He will be followed by The Charles Brooks Collective, led by Brooks on the vibraphone. Guest artists for the Collective include Ross Hoppe on piano, Bobby Kling on bass and Christopher “The Kat” Lee, of the Michael Foster Project, on drums.
Brooks is host of the Mid City Jazz Festival and head of the audio engineering department at Baton Rouge Community College. He is a professional jazz vibraphonist, percussionist, hand drummer, pianist, clinician, composer and educator. He also is a 2015 and a 2017 Grammy-nominated educator.
He has a doctorate in musical arts with a composition minor from LSU.
