Hazardous Materials Collection Day is April 29
The parish is holding its Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Materials from businesses, other commercial sources and people who live outside East Baton Rouge Parish will not be accepted.
Those entering the drop-off site must show proof of parish residence such as a state-issued driver’s license or passport. Items will be checked to make sure they are on the list of accepted materials.
Household hazardous materials that will be accepted include fertilizers; pool chemicals; insecticides; pesticides; gasoline; cleaning products; oil paint and paint products; automobile tires; auto products including used oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, diesel, oil and fuel filters; cooking oil; fluorescent tubes, ballasts and compact fluorescent bulbs; lead acid, nickel-cadmium and alkaline batteries; stereos and televisions.
Liquids must be in labeled, closed containers of 5 gallons or less.

Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library will offer a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday to adults interested in learning how to use the library’s resources on laptops, iPhones, iPads, Kindles and other electronic devices.
Resources include books, magazines, language learning, music, test studying help, career skills and more.
The April Sunshine Social for adults with disabilities and their friends and families begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Milton J. Womack Park. This month’s theme is Fashion Fiasco and participants will have the chance to model their outfit.
Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge and BREC sponsor the monthly program, which features a disc jockey, snacks, door prizes, socialization and more.
Cost is a $5 donation to cover supplies and door prizes.
Movie in the park
Enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars with BREC at Nairn Drive Park, where “Pan” (PG) will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday. In case of bad weather, the movie will be moved inside the gym.
Popcorn and other concessions will be available for purchase.
Bluebonnet Swamp art series
Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center continues to celebrate its 20th anniversary with the Bluebonnet Swamp Magic photography show beginning Tuesday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Cash prizes will go to the winners of Best in Theme and Visitors’ Choice in the adult and youth categories.
The show ends May 21 with an artist reception from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Using perler beads, teens can make 8-bit-styled magnets or keychains from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library. All materials will be provided.
