St. Francisville resident Billie Jo Bordelon had dream in September to start a homeless shelter in St. Francisville.

It's a vision she is taking seriously, as she immediately started finding assistance to make her dream a reality.

She's calling her venture A New Beginning.

Bordelon said she spoke with her pastor, who confirmed there is a need for a homeless shelter in the Felicianas.

"I began talking to people, and everyone I spoke to was very excited, and so I got excited," she said. "I started looking at places that were already built. I have a list of everything God told me to do. As I look back now, God originally set out the plan.

She's sought help from Volunteers of America and St. Vincent de Paul. Bordelon has started developing a nonprofit board and finding people who want to help.

"I implore the people of West Feliciana Parish to help in such a large undertaking," she said. "I get discouraged, but I keep pushing. All the experiences in my life have led me to this point."

She's hoping to begin the grant-writing process and hold meetings in January.
