Sheriff J. Austin Daniel has announced the 17th annual Kids' Christmas has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9.
The event will be at 11 a.m. at the West Feliciana Middle School gym. Santa will arrive at 11:30 a.m., and hot dogs and jambalaya will be served right after. The toy selection and bicycle give away will begin at noon.
Children ages up to 10 years old will get to pick out one toy and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of the many bicycles donated to the program.
The sheriff's department expects about 250 children to attend the event this year, a news release says.
The department is also seeking donations for the Kids' Christmas toy fund. New toys in the original packaging are accepted, as well as money donations of any size. The event divides toys into four age groups for boys and girls: 1-3, 4-6, 7-8 and 9-10.
To donate to Kids' Christmas, stop by the Sheriff’s Office, 4785 Prosperity St., St. Francisville, or call Barbara Bonaventure at (225) 784-3109.
“I would like you all to know that everyone is invited to see the delight and excitement on the kids' faces as they visit with Santa, select their toys and win the bicycles. We are honored to host this event and humbled by your outpouring of support. These gifts may be the only gifts some of these children receive, so your support is greatly appreciated,” the sheriff said.
