ST. FRANCISVILLE — West Feliciana Middle School hosted the 16th annual Veteran’s Day ceremony on Nov. 10 as students and staff paid tribute to those who’ve served in the different branches of the United States military.

The event began with a welcome by WFMS Principal Jovanka Chatman, followed by the presentation of colors by the West Feliciana High School’s Navy Junior ROTC and the national anthem by the West Feliciana High School chorus.

After middle-school students led the Pledge of Allegiance, Superintendent Hollis Milton delivered opening remarks about the importance of service and sacrifice.

Bains Lower’s Voices in Motion Choir sang “We Celebrate America” followed by homecoming queen Cierra Peters’ presentation of the "Fallen Soldier" and a Purple Heart presentation by Bains Elementary students.

The high school band played “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and middle school students offered a special presentation of the reading of "A Veteran’s Heart." The middle school choir sang “God Bless America” and NJROTC students from the high school made an arms and flag presentation followed by the high school choir’s rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

Middle School Assistant Principal Mark Lester read the names of veteran family members, and those in attendance were given certificates of appreciation by students. The event closed with a POW flag presentation and the playing of taps by the high school band.
