The cool weather has definitely awakened the fall spirit in the community. From festivals to costume contests, there is something to do around every corner in Greensburg. So, pick out your favorite Halloween costume, grab your bucket, put on your walking shoes and hit the town. Here is where you can find all of the area fall festivities:

Community market

The Greensburg Community Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the courthouse square in Greensburg.

There will be booths with a variety of homemade goodies. During the market, the St. Helena Historic Association will have the Old St. Helena Parish Jail, built in 1855, open for the public to tour. It is one of the oldest buildings in St. Helena Parish. The Old St. Helena Parish Jail is located next to the courthouse square in the center of Greensburg.

SHPSO Fall Festival

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office will host its ninth annual fall festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the courthouse square in Greensburg. There will be over 15 different activities, a cookie walk, dunking booth and lots of games and food for everyone.

Nursing home treats

St. Helena Parish residents can bring their children by the St. Helena Parish Nursing Home, 32 N. Second St., Greensburg, for trick-or-treating from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31. Children are encouraged wear their costumes to add a little excitement and fun for the residents to enjoy. Candy will be given to the trick-or-treaters, so make sure you bring a bucket.

Benefit garage sale

There will be a benefit garage sale at the First Baptist Church of Greensburg, 6260 La. 10, Greensburg, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3-5. All proceeds will go to purchase new activity supplies for the residents at the local nursing home.

NTCC Fall Festival

Northshore Technical Community College, 948 La. 1042, Greensburg, is having a fall festival beginning at 11 a.m. on Oct. 30. There will be a costume contest, and food and refreshments will be provided.

Sweet potatoes for sale

The holidays are upon us, and sweet potatoes are on every menu! The LSU/Southern University Agricultural Center plans a sweet potato sale to benefit the St. Helena 4-H Club. It will take orders on Nov. 14 to ensure the sweet potatoes arrive before Thanksgiving. The cost is $22 for a 40-pound sack.
