A body found Sunday in a shallow grave in St. Helena Parish has been identified as that of a woman reported missing last week, the Sheriff's Office said.
Based on preliminary information from the autopsy, the death of 35-year-old Rebecca A. Blades will be investigated as a murder, said Chief of Detectives Joe Chaney, of the St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office.
Blades' body was found buried in the woods behind some houses off Anderson Road.
Her father had reported her missing May 10, two weeks after he had last seen her at her home on Anderson Road, according to earlier reports.
A person of interest has been identified in the case, Chaney said, declining further specifics.
Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is assisting in the case.
Sheriff Nathaniel Williams also encourages anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office's detectives division at (225) 222-4413.
