The St. Helena Parish Historical Association will renovate the Old St. Helena Parish Jail, next to the courthouse square in Greensburg, and will turn it into a museum to house artifacts from the parish.
The Historical Association has a few items to display in the museum when renovations are complete but are searching for more.
The association’s goal is to have the jail opened by next year. There is still some work to be completed before the old jail can open its doors, according to Historical Association President Rita Allen.
The Historical Association is planning several fundraising events for renovations at the jail, which will be held during Community Market Days on the last Saturday of each month.
The Old St. Helena Parish Jail, built in 1855, it is one of the oldest buildings in St. Helena Parish and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
