A Celebration of Literature and Art will host “Watermelon Wine & the Poetry of Southern Music: A Words and Music Program” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Hemingbough, 10101 La. 65 (off U.S. 61), in St. Francisville.
Award-winning journalist and author of a dozen books on Southern culture Frye Gaillard will read from his book “Watermelon Wine,” considered a classic on country music.
Country music singer and songwriter Anne DeChant will perform her favorite tunes, including a few composed with Gaillard.
They will examine the legacy of Southern folk, blues and country music through the lens of literature, CLA’s Olivia Pass said.
From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Gaillard and DeChant will discuss how and when several of their songs were written.
CLA member tickets are $10 for both events — the conversation and the concert — while nonmember tickets are $20 for both. To attend one event, the cost is $10 for nonmembers.
Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com.
