With the guidance of LSU AgCenter Area Nutrition Agent, Layne Langley, a parishwide Volunteers for Family & Community Club has been formed.

The VFC Club works to strengthen, develop, coordinate and extend youth and adult education to improve the quality of living in West Feliciana Parish. The West Feliciana Volunteers for Family & Community began with informational meetings in August and September. The first monthly meeting was held in October and the club has continued to meet monthly since then.

This club is one of 29 VFC clubs in Louisiana.

The WFVFC members have embraced the mission “to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through education, leadership, and action” and have decided to conduct service projects for the animal shelter, nursing home and Council on Aging, a news release said.

During their November meeting, members heard from Sherryl Johnson, director for citizen services and executive director for the COA. She provided an overview of the services the COA provides the citizens of West Feliciana who are 60 years of age and older. Johnson’s visit provided an opportunity for the WFVFC members to see how they might be able to collaborate with the COA.

The club will try to hear from the West Feliciana Animal Society at its February meeting.

The WFVFC meets at the West Feliciana Parish Library the first Friday of every month at 11 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 2. To learn more about the WFVFC or to join, contact Layne Langley, LSU AgCenter extension agent, at (225) 635-3614 or at lalangley@agcenter.lsu.edu
