To celebrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics at West Feliciana Middle School in St. Francisville, eighth-grader Allack Ricks created a video that won $2,500 and the top award for a middle school in a state competition.

His video also won the top prize at the Louisiana School Boards Association Convention held Feb. 14 in Baton Rouge.

Teacher Heather Howle introduced robotics in 2014 as a STEM elective for the middle school. Students excelled in the class, which became so popular it was offered again in 2015-16.

STEM continues to play a part of West Feliciana Parish Schools’ success, a news release said.

A high school Robotics Club has been formed that includes students from three robotics-based classes: cyber physics for 12th-graders, cyber literacy for ninth-graders and cyber science for 10th-grade students.
