The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office website has been redesigned, offering residents an opportunity to pay tickets and property taxes online, order vehicle crash reports or learn about the latest Sheriff’s Office auctions.
Additionally, the site offers community news, safety tips and information about signing up for citizens’ alerts, as well as a hurricane readiness checklist.

Polos and Pearls planned
Everyone is invited to visit participating shops along Commerce, Ferdinand and Royal streets in downtown St. Francisville from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday to shop, eat and unwind at the annual Polos and Pearls event. Bands, refreshments, shopping, trolley rides and more will be featured.
Shops will be paired with local restaurants, and work by area artists, artisans and craftspeople will be on display and for sale.
Pick up a shopping card, have it stamped at seven locations, then visit the St. Francisville Inn to get a free “Love St. Francisville” T-shirt.

Help for food addicts
Food Addicts Anonymous, a weekly support group providing fellowship for men and women willing to recover from the disease of food addiction, meets every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the West Feliciana Parish Library, Room B, 5114 Burnett Road, in St. Francisville.
This free 12-step program is self-supporting. There are no dues or fees required for membership, only a desire to stop eating addictive foods.

Register soon to vote
Voter Registration Week will be Aug. 31 through Sept. 4.
Registrars from voters’ offices throughout the state will be at various locations encouraging all eligible Louisiana residents aged 17 and older to take advantage of the opportunity to register to vote.
In addition to the week’s activities, residents can register to vote and update their information at geauxvote.com, by visiting the West Feliciana Parish Registrar of Voters Office or Office of Motor Vehicles, 5932 Commerce St. in St. Francisville, or at public assistance agencies, schools and libraries.

Home School Day planned
Audubon State Historic Site, St. Francisville, will host Home School Day from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 28.
Preregistered students will learn about life in Spanish Colonial West Florida in 1810 in the Felicianas.
Black powder weapon demonstrations, open hearth cooking, weaving and more activities will be featured.

A Celebration of Literature and Art presents Watermelon Wine and the Poetry of Southern Music: A Words and Music Program from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at Hemingbough, 10101 La. 965, in St. Francisville.
Frye Gaillard, an award-winning journalist and author of a dozen books on Southern culture, will read from his book “Watermelon Wine,” which is considered a classic on country music.
Country singer-songwriter Anne E. DeChant will perform her favorite songs, including a few jointly composed with Frye.
Through a combination of readings and original performances, Gaillard and DeChant will examine the legacy of Southern folk, blues and country music through the lens of literature.
