Members of the Bluffs Babes Book Club wanted to do something special for Christmas, and they wanted to do something special for children. So each purchased an assortment of teddy bears and children’s books and donated them to the West Feliciana Fire Station that was recently built at The Bluffs.

At the group’s regular monthly meeting in December, the group presented several boxes of the goodies to Deputy Chief Russell Achord. The Bluffs Babes meet once a month at one of the member’s homes, and they discuss a book they’re reading and enjoy casual and friendly socializing.

“We wanted to do something special for children who might be displaced by a house fire, just to give them something for comfort,” said Patia LaCour, one of a dozen ladies who meet each month to share their love of reading. “That’s a very difficult situation for any child to be in and we wanted to do something for the new station tied in with Christmas.”

The Bluffs Fire Station was dedicated in November with an open house, and Achord told the group during brief remarks that the West Feliciana Parish Fire Protection District plans to eventually have the station staffed with emergency responders.

“Thank you all for these gifts, and some children will benefit from your kindness,” Achord said.
