A political forum hosted by Let’s Talk West Fel, a community watchdog group, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Feliciana Parish Library, 5114 Burnett Road, St. Francisville.

The forum will feature candidates running in the Oct. 24 primary election for West Feliciana Parish president, council and clerk of court.

Each candidate will be given about two minutes to speak about and answer questions on economic development, infrastructure and the home-rule charter, as well as given two to three minutes for a closing statement.

Co-ed soccer team forming

Baton Rouge Homeschool Athletic Association will host a co-ed soccer team this year, participating in the Association of Christian Educators of Louisiana.

Although the first practice was Sept. 12, there is still time for boys and girls ages 13 to 18 to join. Some 12-year-olds may be allowed to participate.

Practices will be at BREC’s Plank Road Park, 19550 Plank Road, Zachary, but home games will be played at the West Feliciana Sports Park, 10166 W. Feliciana Parkway, St. Francisville. Remaining practice dates are Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, 17 and 19. The first game is tentatively scheduled Oct. 20.

If your homeschooled child would like to participate, email brhaa.eagles@gmail.com or call coach Jerald Hardy at (225) 247-2407.

Background actors needed for ‘Roots’ remake

A local company is calling for background actors to audition for paying jobs in the miniseries revival of “Roots” starring Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Derek Luke, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman and Erica Tazel.

Men and women of all ages and races will be hired for paying jobs.

The show takes place in the 1800s, so there are some restrictions. People with natural hair — no wild colors, roots showing, highlights, braids, dreadlocks or military styles — will be accepted, and facial hair on men is a plus but not mandatory.

Filming in the St. Francisville area is slated for mid- to late October but dates vary depending on parts you will be chosen for.

Extras casting coordinator Rikki Hegwood said the company is looking for reliable locals or people who do not mind working in the St. Francisville area.

To audition, email rootsextrascasting@gmail.com and include St. Francisville Extra in the subject line. You must include your name, age, contact phone number, height, weight, coat size, bust and waist measurements, location of residency and a current, clear photograph of yourself.

Hegwood said subjects should stand in front of a solid wall with hands by side and have someone else take their photograph with a cellphone camera. No pictures with hats or sunglasses will be considered.

Background actors should include whether they have experience riding horses or shooting guns, have tattoos and where they are located, and whether they have braces or gold teeth.
