ST. FRANCISVILLE — Jodi Lemoine has been promoted to principal of Bains Elementary School.
Abby Cochran, whom Lemoine is replacing, was recently named West Feliciana High School’s new principal.
Lemoine, who has served as an instructional coach and network facilitator for the past year at Bains, has been with the West Feliciana school system for 13 years. She began her career as a math teacher at West Feliciana Middle School, then became a literary integration specialist at the middle school for two years.
“My main goal is to provide a seamless transition from Abby to me,” said Lemoine. “There are so many positive things in place. We’ve seen progress in many areas and I plan to continue that and improve on a very solid foundation.”
Superintendent Hollis Milton praised Lemoine’s strong instructional leadership.
“Ms. Lemoine is passionate about supporting teachers in the classroom and helping students meet their potential,” Milton said. “I am excited about the future of Bains under her leadership.”
One priority is to increase the exposure to technology for students by increasing the devices that are available to them to use, not only in the lab, but in the classrooms as well. Continuing training for teachers is also important.
In the wake of increasing expectations on students through more rigorous curricula, Lemoine said one of her objectives as principal will be to “better prepare our kids not only for tests, but all the way through college and career assessments (through middle school and high school).”
She said one of the major advantages of being part of a small school district is the continuity that is developed over the course of guiding a student’s academic career and the closeness with which the district leadership coordinates its efforts. Lemoine said she plans to work closely with newly announced Elementary Education Supervisor Zanovia Curtis to ensure a smooth transition for students from Bains Lower Elementary to Bains Elementary, which includes second through fifth grades.
Lemoine said she will miss Cochran’s leadership most of all.
“Abby is an incredible leader,” Lemoine said. “In her nature, she has a way to inspire confidence in people and makes you feel very supported. She defines her vision and supports you in leading toward it.
