West Feliciana Parish 4-H leaders attended a recent training day in Gonzales for Southeast Region 4-H leaders.

The volunteer 4-H leaders took part in their choice of informational sessions in the morning followed by numerous roundtable sessions in the afternoon.

Topics were designed to give leaders ideas and support for their club programs.

“Every year, the Southeast Region hosts this training for our volunteer 4-H Club leaders to provide them with the latest information and ideas so they can have a successful club year,” said West Feliciana Parish 4-H Agent Meredith DeLee, who also attended to show support for the volunteer leaders.

She said volunteers were given numerous suggestions and ideas to use in their respective clubs at the daylong workshop.

WFMS 4-H leaders took home information they were able to implement right away for National 4-H Week, which included a locker-decorating contest and a Green and White Day, DeLee said.

Leaders also were provided with breakfast, lunch and lots of door prizes.

Leigh Hughes, Lacey Jewell and Bridget Bush, all of West Feliciana Middle School, attended the training day. This event was sponsored by LSU Agricultural Center, Southeast Region.

West Feliciana Parish has 4-H Clubs at Bains Lower Elementary, West Feliciana Middle School and West Feliciana High School.

DeLee said there are special interest clubs within the school 4-H Clubs, including dealing with sewing, nutrition, photography, poultry, shooting sports and livestock.

Clubs are winding up their largest fundraising effort of the year, the annual sweet potato sale, which ends Friday. DeLee said orders for potatoes can be made by calling the office directly at (225) 636-3614.
