Although the St. Francisville Farmer’s Market doesn’t travel by horse and buggy and anymore, farmers still feature some of the freshest produce in the parish from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Thursday in the 4-H pavilion behind Fred’s Dollar Store on Wilcox Street.

Homegrown vegetables and fruits, herbs, hydroponic lettuces, microgreens, farm-fresh eggs, goat’s milk and cheeses, yogurt, baked goods, handmade soaps and lotions, flowers and more are sold.

Visitors can expect to find cucumbers, peppers, squash and tomatoes, as well as figs and watermelon.

Amy West sells homemade yogurt, but pre-orders are preferred, since minimal amounts are brought to market. Call West at (225) 635-3098, or try her Westdome hand cream made from beeswax, coconut oil and honey.

Amazing Grace goat cheese in Cajun, dill, plain and Tuscan flavors is unique to the market, as are the many varieties of Bon Savon soaps including swamp water, which is used for removing boiled seafood odor from hands.

Bread-and-butter pickles, homemade salad dressings, jams and jellies, as well as cookies, fudge, muffins and pralines also are sold weekly.
