Melville R. “Mel” Percy, 47, Republican, is seeking to retain his seat on the West Feliciana Parish Council.
Percy has served as the District 2 parish police juror and councilman and is running for the District C seat.
He graduated from LSU, earning a business degree while serving in the Louisiana Air National Guard, where he completed officer school and attended pilot training.
He is a member of the Masonic Lodge in East and West Feliciana parishes, served as a volunteer firefighter with Fire Protection District 1 of West Feliciana Parish since 2006 and was appointed to the Fire District’s Board of Commissioners in 2008, where he has served as vice chairman and chairman for two terms.
Percy works as an area sales manager for NuVasive Spine, a medical device company.
A resident of West Feliciana, Percy is married to Victoria Taylor Percy, and they have two children, Jordan and Amelia. The family attends St. Francisville United Methodist Church.
Percy says he will continue listening to the opinions and ideas of residents, considering all sides before making decisions that affect quality of life.
“West Feliciana is a wonderful parish but faces a difficult future if we do not address the real issues: a declining population, lack of housing our young people can afford, and a tax base that is shrinking at an alarming rate,” Percy said. “A strong supporter of the Home Rule Charter, my goals, if re-elected, include restoring trust in local government and addressing the need for responsible growth.”
