Strong Women program
Women who would like to try out a strength training program without a long-term commitment are invited to experience a safe, effective and enjoyable program that’s improving women’s health all over the country, instructor Pam Myers said.
A summer session of Strong Women, which starts June 30 and continues through Aug. 14, is a research-based strength training program offered by the West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation Department.
Both morning and evening classes will be available at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 8:15 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Morning classes will be followed by optional floor sessions that focus on core muscles.
Classes will be held at the West Feliciana Community Center, 10498 La. 965, St. Francisville.
Research shows that a program of strength training not only improves muscle strength and bone density, but reduces falls, improves arthritis symptoms and increases flexibility, which is especially important for women who often see declines in many of these functions with age, Myers said.
For information or to register, call the WF Parks and Recreation Department at (225) 784-8447. For information about the program, call Myers at (225) 635-4878.
