Photo provided by Darlene Reaves -- Volunteer groups, such as the Friends of the Library, along with many other volunteers and groups in West Feliciana Parish, are invited to attend a volunteer appreciation event April 14 at The Bluffs on Thompson Creek near St. Francisville. Members of the Friends of the Library, seated from left, are Margaret Roubique and Darlene Reaves; and standing, Laurel Berryman and Pat Heurtin, who is organizer of the appreciation ceremony.

National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, will be celebrated in West Feliciana Parish from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 14 at a volunteer appreciation event at The Bluffs on Thompson Creek.

“Webster’s defines a volunteer as a person who performs a service willingly and without pay, and West Feliciana is filled with hundreds of volunteers who give of themselves for a wide variety of causes,” event organizer Pat Heurtin said.

Heurtin, herself a volunteer for Friends of the Library, the Lake Rosemound Association and West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation, said volunteerism is active in local churches, civic organizations and nonprofits; at the library, hospital, schools, local parks and at events; and through scouting, athletics, youth groups and more.

Organizations are encouraged to attend the volunteer appreciation event and request a table to display information for those who may be interested in volunteering for that group.

Refreshments will be provided.

“This event will honor all volunteers. If an organization wishes to pay special tribute to one of its volunteers, they’ll be allowed to do so the night of the event,” Heurtin said.

To attend, email, indicating the number of volunteers attending and whether a table is required.

The deadline to RSVP is April 7.
