The month of October has flown by. The first three issues of The Advocate Extra have made their appearance, and West Felicianians are sending feedback. Keep the comments coming to help us improve.

The Yellow Leaf Arts Fest and the Hardwood Fall Fest are behind us for another year.

Little trick-or-treaters should be out in force from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

Friday is West Feliciana High School’s homecoming, with the parade set to roll through town between 2:15 p.m. and 2:20 p.m., followed by the pre-game court presentation ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. and the game at 7 p.m. The homecoming queen will be announced and crowned during halftime.

Saturday ushers in November with the primary election, Thanksgiving and a new round of activities to keep everyone busy as we head into the winter holiday season.

Rosedown Veterans Day Wall

During November, Rosedown State Historic Site, 12501 La. 10, will display a Veterans Day Wall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the gift shop conference room. Interested people are invited to provide pictures of veterans. Pictures must be copies — no originals will be accepted. Blues Fest at Hemingbough

The 2014 Hemingbough Blues Festival will be from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2, rain or shine. Hemingbough is at 10101 La. 965. In case of rain, an indoor venue is available.

The doors open at 11:30 a.m. This year’s lineup includes “Jumpin” Johnny Sansone, Luther Kent, Gregg Wright, Chris LeBlanc, Eden Brent and The Delta Drifters. Also appearing will be Frederick Neal, Bryan Romano, Bobby Campo and Chris Belleau.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 the day of the festival and children 12 and under get in free.

Healing Place Church events

Healing Place Church, 7193 U.S. 61, St. Francisville, is hosting a Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6 a.m. Nov. 2 at Audubon Cafe, 7143 U.S. 61, St. Francisville.

Primary election

Voting in the primary election will take place at precincts throughout West Feliciana from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Registered voters need a valid picture identification card.

Poetry open mic

A Celebration of Literature and Art is sponsoring a free community poetry reading event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at the West Feliciana Parish Library, 5114 Burnette Road, St. Francisville. Audubon State Historic Site

On Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., an Enslaved Life School Day will be held where preregistered students will learn about enslaved people who worked at Oakley Plantation harvesting crops.

A tour of the slave cabins will relate life for the enslaved on the plantation and how they adapted to their condition. Other demonstrations will include a taste of food, daily tasks and recreation on a plantation. There is no cost to preregistered school groups. A Veterans Day Commemoration will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at Audubon State Historic Site, 11788 La. 965, in St. Francisville. Visitors can see how American military weapons and uniforms have changed through the years. There will be demonstrations of some weapons. ‘The Baroque Sonata’ concert

The St. Francisville Symphony Association will present the second concert in its season, “The Baroque Sonata,” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 7 at Grace Church, 11621 Ferdinand St., in St. Francisville.

Tickets will be available at the Bank of Saint Francisville, the BRSO box office or at the door. Individual tickets are $25.

Clothes Closet plans sale

West Feliciana Clothes Closet is planning its last sale of 2014.

Clothes and other items will be on sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at 4591 Feliciana St., St. Francisville.

All proceeds benefit the West Feliciana Food Pantry.
