Lt. Gen. Rex McMillian celebrated the 240th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps with a wreath-placing ceremony at the grave of Gen. Robert H. Barrow in West Feliciana Parish on Nov. 10.

Barrow served as the 27th commandant of the Marines, and he and his wife, Patricia, are both buried in the Grace Episcopal Church cemetery in St. Francisville.

The ceremony included McMillian and Sgt. Major Anthony Spardro placing the wreath at Barrow’s grave and the playing of taps by a Marine Corps band, followed by cake and refreshments in Jackson Hall.

Three of the Barrows’ children — Robert, Cathleen Harmon and Barbara Kanegaye — attended the ceremony along with a number of friends and family.
