Entergy’s River Bend Station presented a $12,250 check to the West Feliciana Parish School System on Nov. 18 for its middle school to purchase 35 Lego Mindstorm EV3 robotics kits to enhance the school’s science, technology, engineering and math curricula.
“River Bend is excited to be able to assist with a program that will increase our students’ capacity to be successful in their careers,” said Todd Brumfield, River Bend director of regulatory and performance improvement. “Who knows? Maybe one of today’s middle school students will be one of River Bend’s engineers of tomorrow.”
The middle school will use the grant to purchase software that allows students to design, build and test program robots using Lego’s Mindstorm technology.
Lessons include math and science concepts, challenges facing today’s scientists and critical thinking.
Students also will be able to participate in tournaments and celebrations while learning team-building and presentation skills.
Brumfield presented the check to West Feliciana Parish School Superintendent Hollis Milton during the annual Recycled Fashion Show at the West Feliciana High School auditorium. The show, sponsored by River Bend’s North American New Generation in Nuclear chapter, highlights fashion made from recycled materials, according to a news release.
“We appreciate River Bend’s continued support of the West Feliciana Parish School System,” Milton said. “In order for our students to be ready for college and careers, it is essential that we assist them in building capacity and competency in science, math and technology. This helps them for life beyond the classroom.”
