The West Feliciana High football and volleyball teams recently were recognized for exemplary sportsmanship on and off the playing field.

The West Feliciana Saints football team and coach Robb Odom were honored by the Baton Rouge Area Football Officials Association with the presentation of the 2015 sportsmanship award.

A trophy was presented to Odom by BRAFOA President Louis Metevia at the organization’s annual year-end banquet at Boudreaux’s in Baton Rouge. Eight-time Pro Bowl football player and LSU Athletic Hall of Famer Kevin Mawae was the guest speaker at the banquet.

It was the first year the BRAFOA has presented a trophy for sportsmanship. The Saints football team received the honor for exemplary sportsmanship this season.

“This was a big honor to receive the award for our football team,” Odom said. “The Baton Rouge officials vote on it, and there are a lot of good football teams in the Baton Rouge area and class coaches in the area.”

The Lady Saints volleyball team also recently was honored with the Division III sportsmanship award by the Capital City Board of Volleyball Officials. The award was presented prior to a recent volleyball match.

The CCBVO is the largest officials association in the state, serving 47 area schools.

“I was real proud of my team. It’s an honor to receive an award like that,” coach Celeste Thornhill said. “We always strive to show sportsmanship. It makes me proud of my girls and our fans.”
