Feliciana Hummingbird Celebration takes flight

The Feliciana Nature Society will hold its annual Feliciana Hummingbird Celebration in St. Francisville from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 12.

The event promotes the unique breeding habitat of hummingbirds found in the St. Francisville area.

Visitors will have an opportunity to observe the hummingbirds up close as biologists Linda Beall and Nancy Newfield capture, band, weigh and measure the birds at two private gardens in the St. Francisville area — the homes of Murrell Butler, 485 Oak Hill Road, and Carlisle Rogillio, 15736 Tunica Trace (La. 66).

Vendors will be at both homes selling plants favored by hummingbirds.

There is no fee to attend, but donations are welcome.

All proceeds benefit expenses, events and projects of the Feliciana Nature Society. Presently, the organization is working on hiking trails on the donated property behind Parker Park in St. Francisville.
