Area youth participated in the last day of the West Feliciana Parish Library’s summer reading program — Every Hero Has a Story — led by Layne Langley, LSU Agricultural Center agent.

The children read stories, played games and took turns pedal-powering a Fender Blender Pro bicycle to make fruit smoothies.

Langley read “Franklin and the Hero” and “Stories of the Bayou: A Trip to Louisiana” to the young readers, who then performed physical activities from the books and were asked to choose whether some of the activities were considered sedentary or physical.

“To be a hero, you need to take care of your bodies by getting at least one hour of physical activity each day,” Langley told the youths, introducing them to aerobic, muscle- and bone-strengthening exercises.
