The West Feliciana Parish Hospital is the exclusive underwriter for several West Feliciana High School home football games that will be broadcast over KPCP 88.3 in New Roads.
Play-by-play and commentary will be handled by longtime radio personality Clarence Buggs. The pregame will begin at 6:45 p.m. followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
“To support our high school, we are happy to underwrite these broadcasts,” hospital CEO Lee Chastant III said. “We saw the amazing community support when we sponsored the Livonia playoff game last season and wanted to expand our participation this season.”
The schedule included the Saints’ home opener Friday against Livonia. On Sept. 18, the Saints will host perennial Class 5A contender Live Oak in nondistrict action and KPCP will broadcast the contest.
Three District 6-3A home games also will be broadcast live including Oct. 2 against Donaldsonville, Oct. 16 against Port Allen and the Nov. 6 regular season finale against Glen Oaks. The playoff schedule will be announced when those games are finalized.
Battle of BR celebrated
Experience the American Revolution and celebrate the start of fall in the Felicianas during the 236th anniversary of the Battle of Baton Rouge 1779 at Audubon State Historic Site on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Explore Louisiana’s role in the revolution and the 235th anniversary of the Revolutionary War siege and battle for Baton Rouge through living history demonstrations.
Special activities include drills, musket ball-making demonstrations, cannon firing, blacksmithing and a small re-creation of the battle on Saturday.
At 10:30 a.m., the Caledonian Fife and Drum group will be performing as will the Lagniappe Dulcimer Society at 11:30 a.m.
“This program is the largest Revolutionary War program in Louisiana and represents a turning point in history,” said John House, site manager for both Audubon and Locust Grove state historic sites. “It also gives the visitor a chance to experience the past as their ancestors did long ago.”
Audubon State Historic Site is the setting for the 200-year-old Oakley House, temporary home and inspiration to John James Audubon in the 1800s. The park includes a museum, picnic areas, historic buildings, pavilion and nature trail. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, Oakley House and its lush natural settings are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Admission for the Oakley House tour and grounds is $8 for adults 18 to 61, $6 for seniors 62 and over, $4 for students 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under.
Grounds-only admission is $4 per person for ages 6 and over and free for children 5 and under.
