For National Tourism Week, May 2-10, a reception at the West Feliciana Parish Historical Society Museum in St. Francisville provided the West Feliciana Tourist Commission an opportunity to recognize people in the tourism industry.
Melita Jarreau, of Sonny’s Pizza, was honored as the overall best restaurant server and received a cash award and gift.
Best server finalists included Mandy Alsayyed, Al Aqaba; Larry Armstead, The Carriage House; April Burns, Qué Pasa; Jennifer Cathy, Audubon Café; Rachel Duvall, Magnolia Café; Brittany Jacks, Birdman Coffee & Books; Virginia Parks, The Bluffs; and Jack Zhao, East Dragon.
Best accommodations employee Rosemary Blakes, of Butler Greenwood Plantation Bed and Breakfast, received a cash award and gift.
A beautification award and gift certificate was given to St. Francisville town employee Eric Schneider for his community cleanup efforts.
The West Feliciana High School ProStart teams, under the direction of teacher Amy Dreher, were recognized for their accomplishments.
One team of juniors won first place in the management division of the Louisiana ProStart Invitational, while another finished second in the culinary portion of the competition.
The management team of Lexi Auxt, Dalton Clevenger, Jacob Manieri and Brandon Oliveaux advanced to the National ProStart Invitational in Anaheim, California. The culinary team featured students Sarah Alford, Jordan Bringedahl, Kevanté Davis, Jonah Fowler and Jonathon Tate.
All of the students and Dreher were given commemorative aprons in honor of their achievements.
“Given the importance and significant economic impact of the tourism industry in West Feliciana Parish, it’s important to recognize those involved as we continue to grow and expand our local, regional, national and international footprint,” said Susie Tully, of the West Feliciana Tourist Commission.
