More than 60 children participated in a sewing workshop in September hosted by the West Feliciana Parish 4-H Club.
“That’s incredible for us,” LSU Agricultural and 4-H Agent André Brock said. “With over 60 kids participating, we had to split the larger group into about 10 people.”
Several volunteers, including Julie “Ju-Ju” Pilcher and Heidi Pittman, along with Faye Ritchie, secretary at the LSU Ag Center office in St. Francisville, taught the monthly sewing workshop.
“I just helped a little,” Brock said.
Each month, the girls learn to make different items. For September, they made pin cushions resembling chickens.
“It’s worth noting, too, that several people in the community have donated sewing machines so we could conduct this workshop. That has made a big difference for us,” said Brock.
