St. Francisville Cub Scout Pack 61 continued an annual tradition June 13, when members spent the night aboard the USS Texas, a battleship docked at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte, Texas. This was the third such trip for the group.

The Cub Scouts, their siblings and parents participated in battle drills, flag-raising ceremonies and ship chores as part of the Battleship Texas Youth Overnight Education Program.

Also part of the program, Pack 61 got to sleep in crew quarters, tour parts of the ship closed to the public and experience life as a sailor during World War II.

The USS Texas participated in World Wars I and II and, in 1948, was decommissioned.
