Throughout May, the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office is highlighting its personnel on its website using the hashtag #GetToKnowWFPSO as a way for residents to become familiar with local law enforcement that protects and serves daily.

WFPSO deputies also are displaying blue Concerns of Police Survivors ribbons as a tribute to fallen officers and handing out “I Got Caught Wearing My Seat Belt” T-shirts to young drivers and child passengers wearing seat restraints.

Summer kickoff at library

Teens and tweens are invited to test their skills to see if they would survive in the “Hunger Games” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the West Feliciana Parish Library, 5114 Burnett Road, St. Francisville. Prizes will be awarded; the event is limited to 20 participants.

This “Survivor”-style competition is the kickoff event to a summer full of programs for area youth, such as bingo, do-it-yourself art projects, movie marathons, reading and volunteer projects.

Feliciana Road Race planned

The Feliciana Road Race — part of the Louisiana-Mississippi Bicycle Racing Association’s Cycling Cup Series made possible through a USA Cycling event permit — will be held rain or shine Sunday in St. Francisville.

The course is a 22-mile loop of smooth asphalt with some rolling hills, and all racers, including children 10 and older, must have a valid USAC Road license or one-day license to be eligible for the races. One-day licenses are available online at

Primitive camping will be available on-site.

First-, second- and third-place medals or trophies will be awarded in some categories, and women and juniors will be scored separately for LAMBRA points, except Women’s Category 4, where no LAMBRA points will be scored.

Preregistration fees are $45 online and $55 the day of the race except for Women’s Category 4, which is $30 in advance and $50 the day of race. No refunds will be given.

Registration and number pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 8:45 a.m. at the course’s starting point, 13918 La. 421, St. Francisville.

Families invited to fellowship

Young musicians concert set

An Arts for All young musicians workshop will culminate in a concert at Birdman Coffee and Books, 5687 Commerce St., St. Francisville, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 30.

Though capacity is full for middle and high school participants in the workshop, the community is invited to the check out the concert to see what the students learned about music and playing with others.

A similar workshop-concert will be held in July. Details will be announced later.
