Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, and West Feliciana Parish is hoping to make a difference by walking and raising money for the American Cancer Society at the annual Relay For Life event slated for April 22 at the West Feliciana Sports Park in St. Francisville.

Survivor registration starts at 5 p.m., with each survivor receiving a free event T-shirt and meal.

Opening ceremonies begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by the survivor lap.

A candlelight luminaria ceremony will begin at 9 p.m. to remember those who died of cancer, support people who have cancer and honor people who have survived cancer.

Each luminaria bag will contain a candle that represents one person and will be personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing. Luminarias also can be dedicated to a Relay For Life participant.

A slideshow presentation during the luminaria ceremony will feature photographs of those who have died or survived the disease. To have someone recognized in the slideshow, email their name and photograph to Melissa Hall at Include whether the recognition is in memory of someone or in honor of someone.

To purchase a $10 luminaria prior to Relay For Life, call Grace Episcopal Church at (225) 635-4065 or St. Francisville United Methodist Church at (225) 635-3763, or email Hall.

Luminarias also will be sold at the event.
