In a unanimous vote Oct. 15, the West Feliciana Parish Tourism Commission voted to change Laurie Walsh’s status from interim director to executive director.
Walsh has served as interim director of the tourism commission for four years. The change in title did not involve any additional compensation or a salary raise, commissioners said.
“Laurie has been an exemplary interim director for four years, and it was an oversight that she had not been formally appointed as executive director,” said Kitty Martin, chairwoman of the commission. “We are fortunate to have someone who works as tirelessly as Laurie to promote St. Francisville and West Feliciana.”
As director, Walsh oversees the day-to-day operations of the commission’s tourist information center, which is open seven days a week, Martin said.
In addition to supervising the commission’s employees, she also handles all film industry location inquiries, prepares all information for commission meetings, coordinates with various groups and tourist-related businesses in the parish and is the “go to” person when it comes to tourism in West Feliciana Parish, Martin said.
“I am honored to be named executive director and will continue working to promote St. Francisville and West Feliciana to attract visitors to our parish and make them aware of its quality of life and unique history,” Walsh said.
The commission called a special meeting to review its budget at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 at the St. Francisville Town Hall, 11936 Ferdinand St.
