The West Feliciana Animal Humane Society and the “Bo” Bryant Animal Shelter’s Wags and Whiskers Gala fundraiser is set for Aug. 1 at Hemingbough.

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wags and Whiskers will feature auctions, “crazy fun” carnival-type activities, such as a “Fetch and Run” dash, and doggie dishes filled with gift cards.

Also planned are a wine toss, cash bar, food, music by the Delta Drifters, a “smooch a pooch” kissing booth, photography booth and shelter animals dressed in colorful costumes that will be up for adoption and longing for a loving family to take them home.

The auctions will feature prizes such as a guided fishing trip, theater tickets, an overnight stay in the Monteleone Hotel and sailboat cruises.

Special guest at the event will be Marine Cpl. Jared Heine and his bomb dog, Spike, who patrolled with Heine while in Afghanistan.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Bank of St. Francisville, from shelter volunteers or online at by searching Wags and Whiskers.

The gala is sponsored by the nonprofit West Feliciana Animal Humane Society, whose dedicated and hardworking members coordinate volunteer and donor efforts for the James L. “Bo” Bryant Shelter in St. Francisville.

The shelter opened in August 2012.
